President's Corner
Women's Auxiliary Turns the big 4-0!
Hello everyone and welcome to the "Presiden't Corner". This is an exciting time of year and I have so much to tell you about. Let's get started!
ANNUAL MEETING AND LUNCHEON
This year, PLNUWA presented "It's in the Bag", Saturday, April 28th, 2007 and it WAS quite a party! We began with our boutique at 11:15 and lunch was served at noon. The food was delicious this year-and the room looked awesome! Thanks goes to Barbara Kennedy and her luncheon committee. They did a great job! We were greeted by Dr. Joe Watkins (Vice President of External Affairs) and by our Alumni office representative, Lindsay Westfall. We also got to view a video clip compliled by Elizabeth Berghem. It showed pictures of Lois Brown and the beginning days of our Auxiliary. She did an amazing job on this video and it was enjoyed by all. Special thanks also goes to my husband, Dave, who's company donated some beautiful plastic, etched paper weights-commerating our 40th year. Everyone in attendance received one and they will be a wonderful memory of our luncheon. Thanks, honey.
Our speaker was Diane Benefiel, an alumni of Point Loma, married to a Point Loma alumni (Randy Benefiel) and mother of two Point Loma grads! Here topic, "Being a woman of high Praise" was exciting, moving, hiliarious, griping and emotional and kept us on the edge of our seats. She also brought items to place in our purses to remember her points and that was fun and educational. I hope everyone walked away desiring to Praise our Lord and Savior more often and with greater fervor than ever before. Thanks, Diane. You were amazing!
We were also blessed to have music selections by Deanna Morrison. She played her violin for us and sang. So lovely and sweet. Thank you Deanna. Thanks also to your accompanist, Renee Calvo.
The afternoon was rounded out by my report-which included Auxilary history and informaiton on each of the President's that have served before me. I was able to honor several of them who were in attendance. We have quite a group of women who have served in this position and I am humbled to be numbered with them. I also gave a special honor to Jonnie Gregory. She is one of our past presidents and is the only one to STILL be actively serving on our board. What an inspiration she is to me and how happy I was to give her this special nod. She is an amazing woman. We also had door prizes, the installation of our new 2008 officers-which was done nicely by Linda Brower. A check for $15,000 was given to Dr. Brower and he gave us a Universtiy update as well.
It was a lovely day. The room and atmosphere was festive. The food was great. Our guests did a great job with each of their roles and I was proud of everyone of my Auxiliary members. We have a great team and they are the reason this misistry is still successful today. Thank you ladies. You inspire me!
PROJECT UPDATE:
We are now in our second year of a 3 year, $100,000 commitment to the new Smee Religion/Theology building. Our money will go into the lobby of this impressive and much needed place and we are so excited to be a part of this process. So far, we have donated $42,000.
And, here is some excited news for any donations made over $1,000!! If you give $1,000 to Women's Auxiliary by 2009, you are eligible for the $1,000 level recognition to the Smee Building. This means 3 important facts to you. First, you are giving to help our commitment be reached. Second, you are helping your local church to receive credit. And, third (and most important), you can have a plaque put into this building- with someone's name on it. It can be someone you are honoring or remembering-someone special in your life. It can be someone you want to thank. These plaques will be placed in a location where everyone who walks through can see them. They will be a permanent reminder of people who inspire us-who have made a huge difference in our lives-for all to see. So, here's the deal...you receive the donation credit. Your church receives the credit. And, someone special in your life will be honored....all with one donation! It is a win-win-win!!
We have a long way to go in raising money to reach our goal. But, God is faithful. We know He will provide. And, we are so glad to say we are a part of this building. It will be the centerpiece of the campus. It will effect every student who attends this University. And, it will glorify God. Wow. We hope you will join us in our efforts.
MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION:
Regular membership will be $15.00 a year. Seniors, ages 60 and up, will still be only $5.00. Supporting membership remains at $25.00 Donor membership at $100.00 Life membership at $250.00.
HOMECOMING 2007
Our chapters are gearing up for another great year at Homecoming. You don't want to miss a visit to their booths. We will be continuing to celebrate our 40th year and will have some fun things to see and be a part of.
Thank you so much for your interest and continued support of Women's Auxiliary, Christian higher education and of Point Loma Nazarene University. We could not do what we do with out you. And remember, all contributions are tax deductible.
And, thank you so much to everyone of you who make this ministry possible. It is so fun to see how God takes our small gifts and mulitplies them into these amazing campus enhancements. It is our desire for our projects to touch every student-for the staff and students to be lifted in prayer-and for God's name to be glorified in the process. And, these things are happening because of YOU! Thank you and may God richly bless the time, energy, creativity and love you offer this ministry so freely. I am blessed to know you.
